WHA proudly presents its 2004 Distinguished Service Award to Jerry Lefert, President of St. Marys Hospital Medical Center in Madison.
Jerry Lefert joined St. Marys as an employee in 1972 and become president in 1985. Under Jerry's leadership, St. Marys has become a highly regarded tertiary hospital, offering a large spectrum of services to an 18-county area in southeastern Wisconsin. He has overseen a time of unprecedented growth, including a $28 million new addition to upgrade beds and service areas and a $20 million renovation of the entire hospital campus and the completion of the new St. Marys Care Center. Under his leadership, the hospital began plans for an unprecedented $175 million expansion.

Jerry's accomplishments include forging a strong, innovative relationship with the Dean Health System that led to the development of joint ventures including an ambulatory surgery center and outreach clinics. In 1995, St. Marys acquired a significant portion of the Dean Health Plan (DHP) further solidifying St. Marys dominant market presence.

Jerry also has been very involved in the Madison community. He has served on numerous community boards including the Dane County Health Council; the Dean Health Plan Board; the Ronald McDonald House of Madison Board of Trustees; the Board of Directors, Regional Blood Services, American Red Cross, and the Board of Trustees for Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, Wisconsin.
