Avoiding Political Mistakes When Dealing With Physicians

Program Description
Political mistakes can destroy the relationship between hospital leaders and physicians, resulting in real damage to a hospital's market share and profitability. Through examples and case studies, this program will show hospital executives how to avoid and recover from the most common political mistakes in physician relations. Learn how to maintain trust while promoting change, share power meaningfully, line up support for controversial decisions and turn potential crisis into opportunities. Prepare for the most critical encounters - working with doctors on compensation and responding to entrepreneurial physicians.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
  1. Discuss how to work with physicians to avoid and/or to recover from common political mistakes
  2. Describe how to work with physicians on compensation issues
  3. Discuss how to work with entrepreneurial physicians
  4. Describe how to create an environment of trust and culture of physician involvement

Faculty
Jeffry Peters, President, Health Directions, LLC, Chicago
Jeffry Peters has provided thought leadership to the health care industry for nearly two decades. In 1987, he developed one of the nation's first hospital-sponsored MSOs. As a consultant, he has worked with executives in hundreds of health care organizations to improve financial and operational performance and enhance strategic positioning. Peters speaks and writes frequently on the challenges facing health care leaders. An engaging presenter, he has delivered well-received talks at dozens of industry events including the SHSMD Annual Educational Conference, the Forum for Healthcare Strategists, the MGMA MSO Executive Assembly and the OR Business Management Conference.

His articles have appeared in The Physician Executive, MGMA Connexion, Modern Physician, Healthcare Strategy Alert, Journal of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, H&HN OnLine and other journals and newsletters. He has also been quoted in several industry publications, including Modern Healthcare, Medical Economics and HealthLeaders. Peters is president of Health Directions, LLC, a health care consulting firm based in Chicago. He received his MBA from Northwestern University.

How the Webinar Will Work

It is the responsibility of the registrant to access presentation materials prior to the day of the event. If your e-mail address changes, you do not receive an e-mail with instructions from WHA, or if you are unable to open presentation materials, please contact Lisa Geishirt at WHA two days prior to the event to allow time to address the issue.

Substitution, Transfer and Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received in writing up to five business days prior to an event will be given a full refund less a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received less than five business days prior and day-of-program no-shows. Substitutions are accepted.
