The New Joint Commission Restraint and Seclusion Standards

Webinar
July 16, 2009
Time: 12:30 - 2 pm CENTRAL TIME

Register for this event online:
July 16, 2009 ($295 per line)

Program Description
Restraint and Seclusion is a hot spot with both CMS and The Joint Commission and a common area where hospitals are cited for being out of compliance. The restraint policy is one of the most difficult to write and understand in health care today. CMS has issued extensive interpretive guidelines on restraint and seclusions for hospitals on April 11, 2008, and October 17, 2008. This webinar will simplify and take the mystery out of the restraint and seclusion interpretive guidelines, and will provide a crosswalk to the July 1, 2009, Joint Commission standards.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe what must be reported and documented when a patient dies in restraints and within 24 hours of restraints.
  2. Recall that the Joint Commission has changes to the restraint standard that will be used for hospitals surveyed after July 1, 2009.
  3. Discuss that any physician or LIP who writes an order for restraints or seclusion must be educated in the hospital's restraint policy.

Who Should Participate
CNOs, CMOs, COOs, compliance officers, nurse educators, medical staff coordinators, risk managers, patient safety officers, senior leaders, hospital general counsel, quality improvement directors, Joint Commission coordinators.
