Medicare Payment Bundling and Hospitals: Strategies for Surviving and Prospering
Webinar
August 6, 2009 Time: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. CENTRAL TIME
Register for this event online: August 6, 2009 ($295 per line)
Program Description
By October 2009, President Obama expects to sign a health care reform bill that will include changing the Medicare payment system for acute and post-acute care. Bundling acute and post-acute care payment is estimated to save Medicare between $19B and $26B through 2019, according to the Office of Management and Budget and the Congressional Budget Office respectively. Payment bundling likely will begin with a single payment for hospital admission and readmission of the same patient within a 30-day period, and then transition to a single payment for a Medicare beneficiary's hospital admission, readmissions and all post-acute care within 30 days.
Although the "banker" for payment distribution has not yet been defined, hospitals are initiating strategies now to manage and reduce unnecessary readmissions and create a low cost post-acute continuum with positive patient outcomes.
The webinar will provide the latest available information on Medicare payment bundling. Specific strategies will be described that will enable hospitals to effectively reduce unnecessary readmissions through targeting patient conditions and developing evidence based programs such as Care Transitions Intervention, Guided Care and ACE units. In addition, illustrative processes will be provided for hospitals to upgrade cost effectiveness and outcome measurements in their existing post-acute venues; and, to create preferred provider relationships for an effective care continuum that delivers low cost, positive patient outcomes and reduced hospital readmissions.
