CELEBRATING 100 - Second Convention – May 25, 1921 - Hospital Day Resolution Endorsed

WHA held its second convention May 25, 1921-- just eight months after the inaugural meeting in Milwaukee September 16, 1920. A member of the American College of Surgeons attended with an interesting ask.  They also endorsed a resolution asking for hospital day.

Milwaukee, Wis –Doctors should be compelled to sign a diagnosis before performing an operation, Dr. F. L. Smith, representing the American college of surgeons, told the Wisconsin Hospital association in convention here today. The convention also was addressed by Dr. A. R. Warner, secretary, American Hospital association; Dr. G. E. Ide, Muirdale, sanitorium, and Dr. Hoyt E. Dearholt.  All the old officers of the association were reelected.
 
The Rev. H. L. Fritzschel, president of the association, in his report said there are 129 hospitals in Wisconsin with 7,570 beds, and only one, Muirdale, Milwaukee, with 350 beds. Twenty-six counties in Wisconsin have no hospital.
 
The association endorsed a resolution to ask Governor Blaine to designate May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, as hospital day.  The convention will adjourn tonight.”
