Nearly 1,000 hospital and health care leaders, providers, staff, trustees and volunteers participated in WHA’s annual Advocacy Day on April 19, the first held in person since the pandemic. Former Govs. Jim Doyle and Tommy G. Thompson were keynote speakers at the event that also included an address by current Gov. Tony Evers and a bipartisan state legislative panel of Rep. Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam), Rep. Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee), Sen. LaTonya Johnson (D-Milwaukee) and Sen. Pat Testin (R-Stevens Point).

Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ Secretary-Designee Kirsten Johnson joined the WHA Board of Directors meeting on April 13 for a discussion that included a range of Medicaid and public health topics, with Johnson noting several times that she is hopeful we can “reimagine” care delivery in those areas.

To streamline Wisconsin’s health care professional licensure process, WHA developed and championed 2021 Act 10 which enables most health care providers licensed in another state to immediately begin practice in Wisconsin while they seek approval of their regular Wisconsin license.
