Resource Spotlight: About WHA Information Center Discharge Data and its Uses

The WHA Information Center has been collecting statewide hospital and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) discharge data since 2004. Wisconsin data collection and release is mandated by state statute which makes it far more valuable than data collected on a voluntary basis.

Hospital and ASC discharge data include inpatient, outpatient surgery, emergency department, observation, outpatient hospital services and freestanding ambulatory services. The data is widely used to address and track inpatient and outpatient services and costs, the number and types of inpatient and outpatient procedures, injury rates and demographic characteristics of patients.

Discharge data is made available to state and federal agencies, providers, payers and health care researchers looking to support utilization patterns and market share analysis. Timely and accurate claims data provided by your facility helps guide hospital leaders in making informed decisions about strategic planning and marketing, finance, facility performance and quality improvement.

Hospital and health care leaders can depend on us to supply reliable data outputs and reports necessary to best understand their data, the data of their counterparts and/or affiliations to help design strategies to best allocate resources for future growth opportunities. WHAIC looks forward to continuously evaluating and improving its data delivery systems and analytical services to support PricePoint, CheckPoint and its numerous publications.
