Postpartum Home BP Monitoring Program
Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. HDP are responsible for about 10% of the 700 maternal deaths in the United States every year. Reedsburg Area Medical Center developed a program for home blood pressure monitoring and education to reduce postpartum adverse outcomes and reduce Emergency Room (ER) visits and hospital readmission by 10%. The result of this successful program was a 50% reduction in ER visits post-discharge.
