WHA once again held a successful Post-acute Care Conference in Wisconsin Dells on Aug. 24. Kicking the day off was Dr. Steve Bedwell, physician and stand-up comedian. His keynote address “How to screw up, stress out and get nothing done!” was the perfect introduction to the day. Dr. Bedwell’s message was that to succeed, we first need to understand why we fail. He also stressed that to solve the problems of today, we must look at things differently than we did yesterday. Through the telling of stories and prioritizing audience participation and fun, Dr. Bedwell set the stage for the conference.
Next up was Vince Albergato and Francesca Muterspaw from Simple Solution Consulting. They discussed how post-acute care is being utilized by health systems across the country. They further explained how these programs can be applied to the current environment in Wisconsin and provided examples of new and existing programs in the post-acute care community.
Alfred C. Johnson, deputy administrator of the Wisconsin Division of Quality Assurance, spoke after lunch about the current state of post-acute care in Wisconsin, while also providing insight into the challenges facing Wisconsin health care providers and their patients.
A panel from Essentia Health held a discussion on “Connecting Hospital Patient Flow Strategies to Post-acute Care.” Patient Flow Manager Efrem Natale, Director of Nursing Adrienne Radovich, Hospitalist Dr. Dean Fox and Director of Patient Flow Karen Wright shared their insights and expertise.
WHA’s Vice President of Federal and State Relations Jon Hoelter provided a legislative update to conclude the event.
A big THANK YOU goes out to our refreshments sponsor Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN) and our lunch sponsor Kraemer Brothers LLC.
