Stoughton Health, Stoughton, 2023 Workforce Report

Investing in Staff Development

Investing in staff development is another strategy we launched with regards to recruitment and retention. This fall, we introduced Workforce Development Grants. Through dedicated funds of $75,000/year, we are able to fund a staff member’s endeavors to further their education and development, eliminating any financial barrier. Staff who have worked for Stoughton Health for at least 6 months, have received positive performance evaluations, and have an interest that aligns with current or future organizational needs are eligible for a grant. Upon program completion, the employee commits to using their new learning with Stoughton Health for at least 2 years. We’ve currently accepted 3 applicants in less than 2 months of its inauguration and have staff pursuing certification as an Advanced Practice Provider, Certified Medical Coder and Nursing Educator. A grant recipient shared about the impact the grant opportunity had on her professional aspirations and commitment to Stoughton Health:

“I have been a part of the Stoughton Health family for 17 years and have experienced many different departments.  I was looking for a new growth opportunity and had considered looking for another opportunity outside of the organization.  When I learned that there was a workforce development grant for current employees, I realized that I needed to make now the right time and this was my opportunity for growth.  I am so grateful to have this opportunity to complete my MSN-Nurse Practitioner certificate while receiving financial support from my organization.  I would not have considered going back to school now without this financial support.  I am thankful for this growth opportunity and the organization’s commitment to growing current staff.” –Workforce Development Grant recipient
