Aurora Medical Center - Grafton provides Licensed Athletic Trainers (LATs) to cover local high schools, as well as sports clubs, and community athletic events. Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who use:
- Recognized expertise: Aurora LATs have sport-specific education and national certifications. Count on these specialists to keep athletes safe and competitive.
- Collaborative care: When serious injuries happen, LATs link families to the full spectrum of sports medicine care. The LATs refer athletes for prompt consultation with their orthopedic sports medicine team specifically trained to evaluate and manage on the field injuries, identify general illnesses, make appropriate medical referrals, guide rehabilitation programs for return to activity, and assist with injury prevention and performance improvement programs.
In 2023, Aurora Medical Center - Grafton LATs provided 5,115 athletic trainer visits, including non-concussion injury and illness care to complete assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, Return to Play decision-making, and communication between the physician, coach, and family. They also completed 391 concussion screenings for local athletes and attended 701 community events as an on-site health care provider while athletic events take place.
Because Injury prevention starts before games, Aurora’s Licensed Athletic Trainers also place an emphasis on injury prevention education for athletes, families, and other community members.
