Speaking Up at Country Thunder

While four days of music is playing at Country Thunder in Kenosha County each year, a group of Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs) from Aurora Medical Center – Kenosha make it their mission to educate music festival attendees about sexual assault prevention.

No matter a person’s identity, level of familiarity, or experience with the topic of sexual assault – each person can be the greatest agent of change within their community. To spread the word, the nurses post signage throughout the festival grounds and play messaging between music acts on how people can speak up if they see something.

The FNE’s also walk the grounds providing education and asking festival goers to sign a petition pledging to help potential sexual assault victims and being proactive about becoming victims themselves.

In 2023, 933 festival attendees signed the pledge.
