Using Sim Man to Create Student Experiences

Sim Man is a full-body patient simulator that mimics human anatomy and physiology. It’s designed to safely allow for the teaching of clinical skills in a professional health care setting to assess, diagnose, and provide interventions. Aurora Medical Center - Summit incorporates Sim Man into training for clinical students.

Aurora Medical Center – Summit also has a Sim Baby, representing a 9-month-old pediatric patient. Babies and children can have different physical responses to trauma than adults. With Sim Baby training, clinical students can practice effectively recognizing and responding to respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.

The hospital also uses Sim Man and Sim Baby trainings to educate local Emergency Medical Services partners. Sim Man can simulate complications like struggling to breathe or allergic reactions where the throat closes. It is as close as students can get to practicing out in the field.

In 2023, 29 Sim Man and Sim Baby trainings were provided for 440 attendees.
