Aurora Health Care has been a leader in caring for survivors of sexual and domestic violence for more than 36 years. The Healing Center, now located across from Aurora Sinai, offers spacious, light-filled rooms that help restore the mind, body, and spirit in a safe space.
The Aurora Healing Center cares for victims of any intentional violence including sexual assault and domestic violence, among other types. They offer a 24-hour hotline in addition to a text option for people who do not want to directly speak to someone. They also provide an advocate who is available to assist victims in reporting to law enforcement, find other support services or identify a counseling program. Clients do not pay for the support services they receive.
The Aurora Healing Center is a safe space for survivors to share their story, on their own terms.
"It's important for us to normalize having these difficult conversations," said Sharain Anderson Assoc VP Social Health for Aurora Health Care. "We should be able to look at one another and say, ‘this is what has happened to me, and I want to heal from it and not be embarrassed.’"
In 2023, The Aurora Healing Center provided individual and group counseling sessions for 4,116 people, including 102 new survivors. Support services and medical care were completed for an additional 45 survivors through The Healing Center at Sojourner Family Peace Center.
