Partnerships and outreach at annual events support the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network commitment to stay connected to the diverse communities it serves, improve health and wellness and reduce health disparities.
Milwaukee Hmong New Year celebrated the rich Hmong culture with activities, food and cultural performances at a two-day event at the Wisconsin State Fair Park Expo Center in December. Froedtert & MCW team members provided health information and free flu vaccinations. Language Services interpreters helped translate for Hmong-speaking attendees. The health network is a longstanding partner of the Hmong American Friendship Association and a sponsor of Hmong New Year.
Mexican Fiesta in August at Henry Maier Festival Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront celebrated and helped build awareness of Mexican culture with fun, food and music. Froedtert & MCW volunteers, including members of the LatinX Business Resource Group, provided attendees information about cancer and diabetes prevention and treatment and the new Froedtert & MCW Forest Home Health Center serving Milwaukee’s south side.
Also in August, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) National Walk for Education raised funds to provide scholarships and services to UNCF students and support historically black colleges and universities. Froedtert & MCW volunteers shared information about cancer prevention and treatment and cheered on walk participants at the event held at Veteran’s Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront.
