Cumberland Healthcare’s Replacement Facility Introduces a Unique Farm-to-table Approach within a Healthcare Setting

When the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment for Barron County identified Chronic Disease Management/Prevention as a top priority, key stakeholders began the planning process of how we could offer a farm-to-table restaurant within a health care setting that focuses on nutritious, fresh, and locally sourced food for patients, guests, and team members. In April 2023, the vision became a reality.

The menu is crafted around seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, focusing on whole foods and organic produce. The cuisine emphasizes various dietary needs for team members, patients, and guests, offering vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, heart-healthy, and diabetic food options made on-site from scratch. Dishes are creatively prepared to be both flavorful and nutritionally balanced. The patient menu is designed in consultation with nutritionists and dietitians to ensure it meets the dietary requirements of patients, with an emphasis on healing and wellness.

Partnerships are formed with nearby farms and local food suppliers to procure the freshest ingredients. We can grow our own fresh herbs and vegetables on-site to use in the kitchen and showcase in our farm-to-table health and wellness journey.

Our on-site chef hosts educational sessions and workshops that involve cooking demonstrations, classes, and nutritional talks, to community members to educate about the importance of fresh, locally sourced food for overall health. Collaboration with local schools to educate children regarding healthy eating habits and the significance of fresh, sustainable food is a partnership provided by our chef and registered dietician.

Overall, the farm-to-table restaurant within a healthcare setting aims to create a holistic experience where food becomes crucial in healing, promoting wellness and healthy living.

Our new initiative is a testament to our unwavering commitment to community well-being and the provision of accessible, high-quality healthcare.
