Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake launched a free community health education series. The series occurred monthly from January to July, covering a wide variety of topics including sleep health, pain management, falls and home safety, and medical conditions such as osteoporosis and strokes. The series focused on all three levels of prevention; primary, secondary and tertiary, giving community members education and skills on how to prevent these health issues before they occur, detect and treat them early, and prevent further complications or damage. Hands-on experience and demonstration were provided at certain sessions, like during the February class on falls where participants were taught how to fall safely and get back up safely if they were going to lose their balance. This series was designed to help empower the community by giving them no-cost education on health topics that affect a variety of people in different ways. Individuals were encouraged to attend, but also care takers, spouses, and other family members so people could learn together and support one another.
