Mayo Clinic Eau Claire Emergency Department faced a significant challenge with over 700 hours of diversion episodes in 2022, potentially delaying patient care and restricting choices for patients seeking emergency care. In response, a multidisciplinary team was formed to refine the "Plan to Prevent Emergency Department Diversion Procedure." This proactive approach involved addressing the factors leading to ED diversion in real-time. Despite rising patient volumes, the collaborative efforts of this team led to a substantial reduction in both the frequency and duration of ED diversion instances, ensuring timely access to care and preserving patient choice.
