The Wisconsin Health Information Management Association (WHIMA) held their 88
th annual conference May 17-19, 2023, in Wisconsin Dells. One of most highly anticipated presentations every year is that by WHA President and CEO Eric Borgerding. Borgerding presented on the “State of Wisconsin Health Care” where he covered such topics as health care costs, including the impact of prior authorizations and insurance denials; the health care workforce and the importance of growing our own and removing regulatory barriers; the post-acute care bottleneck and subsequent community impact; and price transparency federal mandates.
WHA and WHIMA have long been partners demonstrated by joint education offerings for health information professionals, together addressing the legal copy fee issues in Wisconsin, partnering on WHA’s Advocacy Day, among other important issues. Borgerding praised the audience for their contributions by reminding them that many of these initiatives are informed or substantiated by accurate and timely data they collect and submit to the WHAIC.
Also at this conference, Vice President and Privacy Officer at WHAIC Jennifer Mueller, a longtime WHIMA member, was awarded the 2023 WHIMA Professional Practice Mentor Award. This award identifies and honors outstanding individuals who support and mentor the upcoming generation of health information professionals. This individual willingly serves as a role model and consistently provides meaningful opportunities for students to gain invaluable professional practice experience in the workplace.
