Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston recognizes that in order to best impact the members of the community, efforts need to be made to positively impact the members of the team. That is why employee culture, compensation and career advancement have been key focuses for leaders.
Engaged employees lead to satisfied consumers and a better community. With this in mind, Mile Bluff employees were given opportunities over the past year to join an Acts of Kindness challenge, participate in monthly activities coordinated by the Fun Squad, and give back to the community.
While employee culture is the foundation of an organization, wages must be competitive to retain good staff members. To help with these efforts, Mile Bluff invested in a new compensation system that has the flexibility to adjust to changes in the market quickly. The new program has already led to an increase in pay for hundreds of employees, and is being used to help attract new staff members to the team.
Other tools that have been added to assist with recruitment and retention include sign-on and referral bonuses, as well as on-the-job training and apprenticeship programs for CNAs and CMAs. Mile Bluff and its foundation also award scholarships to graduating seniors at local high schools who are pursuing a career in health care. There are also scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs available to Mile Bluff team members.
The combination of these initiatives is allowing Mile Bluff to continue to move forward as a strong organization with a strong team.
