In a press conference in the state capitol on March 15, a dozen Republican state lawmakers joined Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Sen. Mary Felzkowski (R-Irma) to propose legislation that creates additional exceptions to Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion statute regarding life and health of the mother, and rape and incest.

WHA has awarded its 2022 Distinguished Service Award to Pete Carlson, president of behavioral health services at Advocate Health. The award was presented to Carlson by WHA President and CEO Eric Borgerding at Aurora Psychiatric Hospital on March 14.

Most people rank the quality of the health care they receive in a hyper-personal way. If a doctor, nurse or clinician fix what ails them, people tend to give good marks. If health problems persist without a good explanation as to why, the bill for payment can look a lot bigger and a more critical view emerges. Right or wrong, that’s human nature.

Recently appointed Assembly Health, Aging & Long-Term Care Committee Chairman Rep. Clint Moses (R-Menomonie) was a guest speaker at WHA’s Public Policy Council meeting on March 1. In his discussion with council members, Moses focused on challenges that are impacting all industries, but are uniquely impacting health care because of the inability to raise revenues to make up for increased expenses.
